REFERENCE: Bill Bryson's "Down Under"
I'll quote a few things from this mildly amusing book, mainly for one reason: to show how even an extremely pro-Australian (Bryson loves Australia, as he states various times in this book) American like everyone's favourite uncle Bill Bryson can't help but notice certain things about Australia that are, ahem, slightly at odds with Australia's image overseas.
Ask yourself: if even Bill Bryson, who qua his cultural, linguistic and social background as a white American who lived in the UK for years has an automatic affinity and affection for Australia, finds so many flaws in the Australian picture... imagine if he'd taken off the Anglo glasses and had had a really good look around.
